Holy Rest: Reclaiming Sabbath in a Stressed Out World (PiE’s Fall Retreat)

Register here!

We are accepting registrations until Monday, September 20th.

Why this retreat matters now

Throughout scripture, God’s people are called to set aside time to rest their bodies, minds and spirits. God rests after the work of creating the world. Jesus goes off alone to pray. As we navigate the stresses of living in a world impacted by the climate crisis, COVID and our own personal challenges, it is more important than ever to set aside time and space for deep rest. At PiE we have a tradition of offering a fall spiritual retreat and while we aren’t quite ready to spend a full weekend away together at a retreat centre, we are excited to be able to offer this outdoor time of rest and connection to our PiE community.

When and Where

Join us for a reflective and restful evening retreat on Saturday, September 25th from 5-9PM at Waterloo Park. We have booked a spacious picnic shelter in Waterloo Park so that we can gather outside together rain or shine.

What to Expect

We will spend time as a group and individually reflecting on biblical invitations to rest and sabbath as well as engaging in some restful spiritual practices together. Participants will have a guided opportunity to make a plan for how they might incorporate some sabbath practices into their daily and weekly rhythms.

We will enjoy a delicious supper together.

We will end our retreat with “Night Church” from 8-9PM which is an opportunity that is open to friends of PiE of all ages to come together (at a distance) under the stars for a simple communion service.

Registration and Payment

This event is for young adults ages 18-35. Registration will be capped at 25 participants. Sign up here to confirm your spot. You do not need to sign up for Night Church separately once you have registered for the retreat.

The cost is pay-what-you-can with a suggested donation of $30. E-transfers can be sent to admin@pastorsinexile.org

How to get to the retreat

The picnic shelter at Waterloo Park is easy to access on foot, by bicycle, or by the Waterloo Park Ion stop. Free parking is also available. A map will be provided to registered participants.

COVID safe practices

Participants will be required to fill out a COVID screening questionnaire before arriving at the park. We will wear masks when we arrive at the retreat and will keep them on until we are seated 2 metres apart from each other. The picnic shelter is open sided and will allow us to meet safely outside rain or shine.

Questions?

If you have any questions about whether this retreat is right for you or what to expect, please let us know. We know that being together, even outside, can feel like a big change after this very unusual year and a half. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions about COVID safety at the retreat as well.

You can email jessica@pastorsinexile.org for more information.
